LONG PRODUCTS / STUDIES

Quad specializes in the analysis and modeling of rolling processes and equipment. Simulation programs are used to evaluate and optimize rolling mill layout, pass design and equipment.

Process Throughput, Mill Upgrade Feasibility & Constraint Studies:

Plant Simulation programs are used to predict the annual production capability of the entire mill from reheat furnace through to product bundling/stacking. The effect of operating improvements and equipment changes are simulated to quantify the annual production and financial benefits. Multi phase long term plans can be developed with each phase being justified to ensure capital dollars are properly spent.

Capability studies for rolling of new products and grades:

Evaluating the loads and forces on the equipment takes the guesswork out of adding new products to the mill. The pass design is developed and optimized to work within the Roll force, roll torque, motor power and gear ratio limitations of the mill equipment. Overall production capability can be established by evaluating the process throughput & bottlenecks at furnace, mill, shear, cooling bed, and finishing end.

Operation Assessment:

The Operation Assessment study focuses on operating improvements that affect the Mill's bottom line by improving the key production indicators such as yield, TPH, delays, cobbles, defects, etc. The emphasis is on minor or non-capital cost changes to operating practices, pass design, setup procedures, etc that can increase production and quality.

Production line simulation and improvements:

Production and process lines for taking hot rolled product and performing value added processes such as cutting, stamping and painting can be simulated to improve the overall efficiency. Some typical production lines include fence post, trailer beam and sign post processing.
